2017 : A Year in Review
Year in Review 2017: Photo 1: The Rare Beasts Become Rarer
This is my third year doing this review, and this year I found there was more than ever that I wanted to include so keeping it down to a 20 photo limit was all the more difficult! The review features a fairly equal split between the three biggest operators on the island, with of course a mention for independent operators.
I started off the year with a trip down to Dundalk. Dundalk has one of the most elderly (but most interesting) fleets across the country, featuring at the time the oldest DD and oldest VWLs. The latter two will be referred to later in this update when I returned later in the year, but my first trip of the year gave me this wintery shot of Bus Éireann MH6, laid over in Dundalk Bus ‘Station’.
These have an interesting history, having been built for Singapore but ending up in Ireland instead. I’ve never had the pleasure of travelling on one of these, but they’re known for their power first and comfort second.
All are confined to schools in 2017, but in some areas stray into service work occasionally. This was a lucky catch, as this is usually confined to its outstation for schools work.
